We will soon be launching a crowdfunder page, to help get the doors open to our new facility. Here’s how you can help us before we launch the crowdfunder.
Do you have, work for, or know a business owner who may be able to donate something?
This could be a physio session, a car service, afternoon tea, a night’s stay, a meal for two, an introductory class, an item, a candle, a pizza, a gift voucher. Any service that a business may be able to donate.
Crowdfunder allows us to sell these donations on our page, with the proceeds going to our cause. In return for the donation, we will give each business a shout-out on social media, showing that they are supporting their local community, and reaching new audience members that they otherwise may not have had…
Win, Win!

How it works
Typically services donated will be advertised on the crowdfunding page (usually with 20% off RRP). That way the donors are not only contributing to a great cause, but getting a nice reward for their donation.
Once we reach our target, typically 6 weeks from launch date, products / services can be redeemed (usually we would just send the business owner the name of the person to be redeeming the item/service).
Example: Nora Batty buys a candle from Just Hoop’s Crowdfunder page that was generously donated by Posh Holmfirth Candles shop. It would normally cost her £10 but she gets it for £8. This raises £8 for Just Hoop. Once Just Hoop has reached the target, Nora Batty receives her candle.
Note: businesses do not receive anything monetary for their donation, only advertising and that warm, fuzzy feeling that they are making a difference to their community (and a shout-out acknowledging that they are good peoples!)
If you’re interested in donating a service or product to our cause, we’d be delighted to hear from you!
Any other ways you can help?
Spread the word. Share our social media and website with friends and family!
Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get!
Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – get in touch and let us know, and we will help create a linked page.
Match-funding Sport England Application
We have applied for a grant with Sport England of £15,000. If accepted, then Sport England will match the funds that we raise up to £15,000.
What that means, is that our actual fund-raising target will be around £15,280 and then the remaining £15,000 will be put in by Sport England. Effectively meaning, every pound donated, is doubled! (As our target is approximately £30,280). Turn-around time for that application is usually 3 weeks.
Note: If Sport England do not agree to match our funds, we will go ahead with our fund-raising anyway and may need to limit our offerings when we first open the doors (or find other means of grants, of which we know a few).
What is the crowdfunding for?
It is to help us convert a warehouse, in Holmfirth (next door to Turner brothers garage) into a community basketball, gym and café. Once open we will provide a load of new sessions for all members of the community!
The money raised will fund the floor (levelling and sports-flooring), add our starter reception desk/café area and those all-important fire safe adherence (adding of fire-corridor).

Who is running the Project – will it make money?
Passionate Holme Valley basketball players and members of the community setup the project, with head coach Adrian Whittles spear-heading the task. Taking a career-break and volunteering loads of his time to help make this dream come true.
“The company is a CIC (not for profit company).
The aim is not to make money, it is for the place that I always wished existed, to exist.
Basketball is my passion and hobby, I have no idea whether I would want to mix my hobby with a career, my aim is to make this project sustainable by volunteering.
If I end up enjoying running the facility and it is making enough money to pay a wage to the person running it later down the line, then fantastic, but I genuinely don’t know at this point whether I want that person to me. “Adrian Whittles (Software Developer and volunteer head coach)
